Ringette is a fun, fast-paced sport that helps young athletes develop skating skills, confidence, teamwork, and friendships in a positive and supportive environment.
The Leduc Ringette Association offers programs for players beginning at age 4, with age-appropriate development pathways that focus on fun, skill development, and a love of the game.
Active Start is designed for young athletes who are new to skating and ringette. At this stage, the focus is simple: fun, movement, and confidence on the ice.
Players learn fundamental skating and ringette skills through games, activities, and age-appropriate instruction. Athletes are encouraged to explore movement, build confidence, and develop a positive relationship with sport.
The goal of Active Start is to help young athletes build confidence, develop basic movement skills, and fall in love with being on the ice.
U10 is where athletes begin to apply their skills in a game environment while continuing to develop skating, ringette knowledge, teamwork, and confidence.
The U10 division is divided into three progressive stages — Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 — which help athletes transition from small-area play to full-ice ringette at a pace appropriate for their development.
Players are typically placed into a step based on age, experience, and evaluations.
As part of the Black Gold League Ringette network, some games may require travel to nearby communities within the Edmonton region.
U10 Step 1 focuses on introducing athletes to game play in a supportive environment.
Players participate primarily in cross-ice and half-ice formats designed to maximize touches on the ring and active participation. Athletes continue developing fundamental skating and ringette skills while learning basic game flow, positioning, and rules.
U10 Step 2 builds on the foundation established in Step 1 and serves as a bridge between modified and full-ice ringette.
Athletes continue to strengthen their skating and ringette skills while developing a deeper understanding of game concepts, positioning, teamwork, and decision-making.
During the first half of the season, players continue to participate in half-ice game formats. In the second half of the season, teams transition to full-ice games, giving athletes the opportunity to apply their skills in a larger playing environment while preparing for the next stage of development.
This gradual progression helps players build confidence and readiness for full-time full-ice ringette.
U10 Step 3 is the final stage of the U10 program and the first full season of full-ice ringette.
Athletes continue refining their skating, ring skills, game awareness, and understanding of team concepts while participating in full-ice games throughout the season.
By the end of Step 3, players have developed the skills, confidence, and game knowledge needed to successfully transition into the next stage of ringette development.
Ringette is a sport where every athlete is actively involved in the game. Players develop skating ability, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and lifelong friendships while participating in a fun and inclusive environment.
Whether your child is stepping onto the ice for the first time or continuing their ringette journey, the Leduc Ringette Association is committed to helping every athlete learn, grow, and have fun.
